Writing about (the) movies

English Composition II (ENGL 1102)
School of Literature, Media, and Communication
Georgia Institute of Technology
Spring 2015

Course description: This section of ENGL 1102 develops communication strategies through a consideration of film genres, authors, and audiences. The course uses the WOVEN (Written, Oral, Visual, Electronic, Nonverbal) approach to communication as it invites students to explore questions about how we think about films, their creators, and their audiences. Film texts will include selections from film noir, melodrama, musicals, science fiction, and horror. Students will be immersed in the study of film cultures as they view films on their own each week and in the occasional class screening; read The Film Experience textbook and a selection of scholarly articles; and produce artifacts in several genres/modes of film writing, including informative podcasts, critical reviews, and videographic essays.
